Journal of Small Systems - Guidelines

General Policy of the Journal of Small Systems

  • The Journal of Small Systems presents a new concept in communicating quality scientific results in an open-access environment: It is a Web-based, open-access, strictly peer-reviewed journal covering the chemistry and physics of atomic, molecular, and ionic clusters, fullerenes, nanotubes, nanostructures and other small systems.
  • The Journal of Small Systems publishes important, original research articles, that significantly advance the knowledge on small systems. In addition, it offers the unique service to accept contributions that have been already published in other journals or submitted to e-print archives for rigorous evaluation of their scientific quality.
  • The copyright of submitted contributions stays with the authors.
  • For accepted contributions the Journal of Small Systems provides significantly added value e.g. by
    • the automatic generation of search-engine friendly meta-data
    • cross-linking to related documents and research groups
    • text search features
    • open annotations and discussion forums associated with individual articles
    • impact monitoring and user-driven ranking
  • Accepted contributions may be associated with the copyrighted logo of the Journal of Small Systems.
  • By submitting a contribution, authors agree with the article being posted in full and without time limitation, and accept our refereeing system.

Refereeing Policy of the Journal of Small Systems

  • Articles submitted to the Journal of Small Systems must meet the highest standards of scientific importance and interest. Only significant, ground-breaking accomplishments are accepted.
  • Submitted contributions need a general introduction explaining the very new aspects and the relevance of the presented work to a broader audience.
  • No Referee is obliged to comment on 'uninteresting' or 'incorrect' manuscripts.
  • Once three Referees have recommended a submitted contribution, it will be accepted for publication in the Journal of Small Systems.
  • All Referee reports, formulated as scientific endorsements and signed, will be attached to the public forum associated with the manuscript after it has been accepted.

Policy of the Highlights in Small Systems

Excellent publications may be recommended by any registered scientist as a Highlight in Small Systems, provided that
  • any of the authors has given his/her consent
  • an open-access, full text version of the publication is available online, with no time limitation
  • a statement by the author that the open-access, full text version is legally ok and does not violate any copyrights
